Tuesday 2/22/11 TREATMENT! Acupuncture in Fishtown

Acupuncture at The Barefoot Doctor in Fishtown

Flat helps
Last night as I slept, my back plotted against me.  I felt it coming...it has been weak and creaky for a few weeks now.  This morning while lying in bed it made that shift...just a tiny little "twEEK" and now I'll be re-learning how to turn my head for the next two weeks.  Oh, temperpedic pillow, why couldn't you save me from this fate?

I spent half the day lying flat on my mattress and the other half lying flat on yoga mats and sheepskins on the floor.  Flat helps but not much.  :-/  This is the 3rd (and worst) time this has happened in the past 2 weeks.  This never happens when I do yoga on a regular basis.  I'm sure it is a combo of not doing yoga and the protein deficiency that caused this incredibly inconvenient, and painful event. I've got two really busy weeks ahead of me and Nick's birthday is tomorrow.  I wanted to cook him a beautiful dinner, but that's not going to happen now. :(  We will just have to celebrate soon.

Because I am covering Acupuncture as a part of my treatment plan right now I decided I would see how it could help with this sort of agonizing and completely debilitating back pain.  I booked an appointment with The Barefoot Doctor in Fishtown.  The experience was really wonderful.

Update: Regarding the daily video I was hoping to do...it's going to have to wait for now. My friend came over last night and helped me work out the streaming issue with regards to my camera, (Thank you so much!! Fun night!) but then new issues came up with my computer freezing and not uploading the videos nicely resulting in choppy, hard to watch videos.  I am still going to work on getting that up and running, but first I have to attend to my body.  Lately my body feels like it is literally falling apart. It IS falling apart. Total wellness is my first priority...or it needs to be top priority again.  This means letting go of live streaming for now and turning my attention to my daily regimen.

Pain Check: 11:30pm. The pain in my back  is screaming so loud I can't think anymore...signing off.  If anyone is reading...please send me some healing energy for work and Nick's birthday tomorrow!

Goals for the week: Get protein levels up by eating a Protein Green Concept meal every day. Get back to a regular eating and sleeping schedule.  Begin to wake up earlier in the morning.  Meditate at least every other day.

  1. I'm sending you my best and most healing love energy, Sweet Pea. Sounds like you REALLY need to get back to doing some yoga every day. As soon as you're able, make it a top priority. I love you. Please let me know if there's anything at all that I can do to help.
    Namaste.

  2. Thank you Suzan!! I already feel better. ;) And I AM going to get back into my regimen. It's actually kind of nice to be forced into wellness. I didn't have a reason for such discipline before. Now I don't have any other choice! Well, pain would be the other choice but I'm not considering that an option. If I have to be forced to do anything...what could be better than wellness?!

  3. Joy there is some research on enzymes and how they help to break down protein. It doesn't matter how much protein you take if the body can't break it down then it can't use it. Also found that enzymes can help with pain. Keep up your practice. Sending you good healing.

  4. Hi Joy,
I'm Dan, I met you briefly today in the Random Tea Room. I just read your blog here on the barefoot doctor and it sounds great...I'm definitely going to try it, probably next week. Just wanted to say after reading some of your blog that I'm sorry about your struggles with Fibromyalgia. I'd never heard of it before and just read up on it on Wikipedia and sounds frustrating, not knowing what the cause or cure is. But it's impressive what you're doing to take care of yourself. Sending good thoughts your way :)
