Wednesday 2/9/11 Trip to the GI doctor today
So I haven't been to my GI doctor in about a year because the last time I saw him his treatment plan was to "try different antibiotics until one worked." This was before we knew that it was Klebsiella that was grossly out of balance in my gi tract. His lets-just-see-what-happens method was the main reason I turned to homeopathy for help. I didn't find it...my homeopathic MD treated me for 3 months with Diflucan before knowing what was happening INSIDE my body. She was "sure" I had a yeast overgrowth. It was only after putting on my "I'm serious" voice and demanded that we discover the SOURCE of my problem BEFORE treating me did she recommend the comprehensive stool analysis test. I keep talking about that test because it really is awesome. You can tell everything from your stool. (Definitely gross...but...it is what it is.) The test showed that I had NO YEAST...not even the beneficial saccharomyces strain because the homeopathic M.D. had given me 3 months of an incorrect medicine which had wiped it out. The test also showed I had an overgrowth of Klebsiella, and noted that my immune system was extremely low. I will scan these tests over the weekend so you can view them.
SO...back to the GI doctor. I updated him on everything I had found since our last meeting. I also asked him about the compounded antibiotic to treat the Klebsiella. (I found a patient that treated a very difficult Klebsiella overgrowth with success by compounding a drug to break down the strong outer shell of the bacteria and an antibiotic to kill it. I mentioned before, the reason Klebsiella is so difficult to treat is because the antibiotics cannot penetrate the bacteria's hard outer shell...you think GI doctors would know this!) He looked over my records and said I could do an endoscopy (an invasive procedure to determine the ecology of my gut) but really I should see an Infectious Disease Specialist. That was it. So, I shelled out the $50 copay and left with an appointment to a different doctor. Story of my life for the past five years...and just another reason I have somewhat given up on the western health care system. I documented my gi doctor experience. I was told by a few people to just start video documenting everything, so I will be writing some and videoing as well...hopefully it won't be too redundant.
Aside from that...I am really excited to go to the Sangria and Spanish class tonight. I signed up last week when my friend emailed me and asked me to join her for the class. I agreed immediately thinking it was a brilliant idea. It is held once a week and basically we will be drinking wine and learning (or trying to learn) Spanish. Fun Fun Fun! I'll update later!
