1/26/11 Wednesday Stiffness Is Leaving My Body!! Lot's of updates.
Update: This is really interesting, and awesome: I have tried to stay conscious of my pain level over the past week...you think it would be easy to notice your own pain, but after living with it for awhile you get used to it...it's weird. Anyway, I am really happy to say that I am not feeling as stiff lately!! Joint ache has been a symptom from the beginning of all this-- a gnawing pain radiating from all my joint areas but especially behind my knees, in my hips, in my inner elbows and all around my neck. I said this before, but it felt like pent up energy or blockages in my joints. Lately that stiffness seems to be melting away...along with my muscles, but I'll take it! In addition, I have no tension in the muscles my body. And at night I have not been waking up with weird all over muscle contractions. Maybe my muscles were taut with toxins and my skin is soft and soggy now because the toxins are leaving my body. Whatever it is, I am just so happy to be feeling better. MUCH BETTER! I am still feeling very weak and foggy...but I am not feeling pain like I was before. I am going to try not to be too attached to this pain free body...NO EXPECTATIONS, but I can't help but be thankful and anything less than thrilled!
The other thing I am noticing is that I seem to be much more flexible...at least in my back. I don't know if it has to do with my new soft body having a lack of muscles and hence a lack of tension...but I am able to effortlessly move into some yoga postures I could never get into before...even during teacher training.
Update 2: I forgot to write about this in the Ayurvedic Doctor Appt. post, but I asked if the herbal supplements she was giving me contained any heavy metals and she said, "Absolutely not." So...this is good!
Update 3: Forgot to write this also--my ayurvedic doctor said that I SHOULD take the antibiotics for my Klebsiella overgrowth, because I need to get rid of it ASAP, so I am going to see my GI doctor on February 9th.
Notes from the day: Snow day! Had a great day with my men! Went a little too hard with my yoga practice because I just want my muscles to come back. No abhyanga, no pranayama, no meditation. I'm really trying to not be too militant when it comes to fitting everything into my schedule. I was getting too stressed out when I missed something, and stress is not good for the doshas!! But I would still like to aspire to have a daily meditation and pranayama session. Mood--GOOD!
Food:
Brunch: 11:45 Gluten free pancakes with 1 1/2 links turkey sausage. The Pamela's brand of gluten free pancake mix is AMAZING.
Early dinner: 4:45 I made the Protein Green Concept dish today. It was really weird. I didn't get to the store before the snow storm, so I cooked cubes of meat from the freezer in the pressure cooker with some water and organic olive oil. I added Kale and let it cook until it was bright green (don't wilt.) At the end I added some fresh parsley and mum's masala (a spice mix from my doctor.) After removing from heat I sprinkled with salt and lime juice. Then I put everything in the blender and blended it really really well. This is supposed to "1) make the dish easily digestible, 2) have the anti-oxidant properties of the leafy greens surround the protein to protect it from oxidizing prior to digestion and 3) create hem-iron, a precursor to hemoglobin." I'm not sure if this is going to work well, but I am incorporating it into my daily diet as much as possible. I think that this was way too much to try to eat in one session...I gagged a few times because of the texture, but it really didn't taste that bad.
Nick and Luke ordered pizza and I thought I might die trying to keep my hands off it. I really wanted pizza.
8:45 pm Snack: Chai tea, recipe from the Ayurvedic Cookbook to follow. And 4 gluten free oreo cookies. I munch way too much on snow days.
Chai tea: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat and add 3 peppermint tea bags (or 2 TBS dried peppermint) and let steep for 20 minutes. Remove tea bags and add 4 cups of milk (your choice, I used raw organic cow's milk) Add 2 cinnamon sticks, 1/4 tsp ground cloves, 1 tsp dried ginger, 3/4 tsp ground cardamom, 1 tsp black peppercorns and simmer over low heat for 30 minutes. After you remove from heat, strain and add sweetener. Honey, brown rice syrup or turbinado sugar is good.

I really know how it feels to be grateful for the relief from pain, however brief (and how extra hard it is when it comes bac). Our body/soul is so forgiving- it tries to forget pain. (I had 3 epidurals about 1-1/2 yr ago, and the first one was possibly 75% effective. So amazing to be nearly pain-free for 2+months.
ReplyDeleteI hope your relief lasts forever!!
Thank you for sharing, Suzan. I know you understand too well, some of the difficulties I've been struggling with. I really admire your strength.
