1/27 & 1/28 Thursday and Friday: Popcorn recipe and not much else.
Friday 1/28/11
Another Snow Day!!!! I love it, I love it, I love it!!
Brunch: Crepes with lemon juice, sugar and blueberries. Coffee with cream. Everything was TASTY!
Dinner: Chicken soup with carrots, celery and mustard greens. Also very tasty.
Movie Snack: Popcorn with ghee, french sea salt, raw hemp seeds and chocolate chips.
I heated 1 TBS Ghee in a heavy black pan. Added 1/2 cup of popcorn and covered with a glass lid. I have to admit, the last time I remember using this method I was probably 7 and barely able to see over the stove. I like that memory. Thank you mom. :)
It's hard to see in this picture but I stacked 2 burners on top of each other. We have a gas stove and stacking helped keep the popcorn from burning. I also had to 'shake' the pan back and forth to keep the popcorn from burning.
I ground some course sea salt (Celtic) in the mortar and pestle and added some shelled hemp seed to give the dish some health properties. They are a really great topping for salads, soups, or any dish. Hemp seeds are really tasty and loaded with Omega 3's, Protein and Amino Acids. I buy the Manitoba Harvest brand. The popcorn was really good, but it would have been better if I had added some melted ghee to the hemp seeds and tossed the popcorn in it.
We watched 500 Days of Summer until popcorn bowl was empty. I don't understand why people love that movie?
Notes from the day: Did 1 hour of pretty intense yoga, 5 minutes of pranayama. Next door neighbor's dog barking all day so meditation was impossible. Really not sure how to deal with the dog situation. It is pretty unbearable. This week has been especially bad. I go to bed with head phones, but it's impossible to drown out the dog. Any suggestions?
Body--Feeling Great! Weak and some muscle soreness but no real pain today!! Stomach...sooooo messed up all the time. Can't wait to try antibiotics again. :-/ Mood--good but somewhat PMS'y.
THURSDAY 1/27/11
Notes from the day: Spent the day cleaning. Did Shiva's fire yoga set. No pranayama, no abhyanga, no meditation. Dog next door is making anything meditation oriented impossible. Nick, Luke and I worked on the first of what hopefully will be a small series of photos documenting this whole process. We set up in the front room...Nick was the photographer, obviously, and Luke was his assistant. He told Luke he would pay him $5 to get him to help, so Luke is the one plowing my back skin in the picture I posted called Back Plow. The picture I posted is of a Polaroid taken from my phone so it is low quality. I will post the film pics when they become available. I just got off the phone with my girlfriend. I asked her what she thought about the picture. She asked if her back would do the same thing if someone jammed a plow into it. My answer was I don't know. I hope the photo does not look or seem contrived. My skin really is so different than it has ever been. Maybe there are people out there that have soft, mushy skin like the current condition of my skin. I have noticed a strange softness in a few (very few) people when we hugged or touched. (Not you! my good friend I was just chatting with!) But for me...this is abnormal. Feedback, anyone?
Last notes definitely worked a lot today but I am feeling good! Mood is good.
Food:
Breakfast: 10 am Scrambled eggs with parsley, zucchini and ghee and 2 pieces gluten free toast with butter.
Snack: Protein Green Concept: Beef cubes with celery, kale and spinach. The smaller portion is still pretty gross.
Snack: 8:30 Organic Medjool Dates with
course celtic sea salt...soooooo good with the salt!
I haven't even bothered to write about my stomach lately because it is always messed up...but just to note it: it is most uncomfortable in the mornings.

About the dog. You can call the police and file a complaint. You can also find out about animal abuse laws in Philadelphia. I forgot to give you a number today. The place is called "food for all" in Mt Airy. Great little food place with allergy-sensitive foods. Even with your belly in its condition you are making great food. I can't wait to see what is going to happen with your belly well. The popcorn sounds great. Going to try it. Remember on days you feel good not to over do it.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever tried adding a little Miso (prefer light) to your Ghee for the popcorn (also amazing for corn of the cob!)
ReplyDeleteOh, this brings up the question that I keep thinking of . . how is it that yeast is BAD for you, but something FERMENTED is good?? ddoesn't yeast ferment?
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried that! It sounds delish! I am a little confused about the whole Ferments thing too. Ayurveda says to stay away from ALL fermented things. But many nutritionists say the Ferments are a really way to cultivate good bacteria in the gut. Who knows...for now, I'm staying away from most ferments...except for wine on occasion.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your advice, Christopher!
ReplyDeleteRe: the dog...I know about the police route, but I really want to remain in good-standing with my neighbors. I know they are trying, so I don't want to act in a way that would breed negativity in any way. But I might feel differently if I don't get a break from it. Too many consecutive days of barking will definitely "make Jack a dull boy."
Re: the belly...I can't wait either!I'm also looking forward to visiting that market. It sounds great. I'll check it out the next time I visit you.
